Indian edtech sector rides the AI wave as upskilling gains momentum
India's Edtech Sector Embraces AI-Led Transformation
India’s edtech industry is witnessing a major shift as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes central to education and skill development. From school children to seasoned professionals, learners are increasingly viewing AI not as a futuristic concept but as a vital tool for today’s world. The demand for AI education in India is growing faster than in many developed nations.
AI is now a core skill globally. As per BrightCHAMPS, 58% of students worldwide already use AI in their learning, while only 36% use basic tech tools — highlighting a move from passive to active tech usage. In India, the trend is even stronger. BrightCHAMPS launched a Gen AI course for kids that became a top-three bestseller in just eight months, reflecting high interest among both students and parents.
Professionals are also driving this change. A 2025 study revealed that 96% of Indian professionals want to be AI-ready. Platforms like Emeritus report a tripling in AI course enrollments year-on-year, mostly from experienced professionals in IT, engineering, and consulting. Simplilearn notes that 30–40% of its revenue now comes from AI offerings, with interest coming from both technical and business leadership roles.
Edtech companies aren’t just teaching AI — they’re using it. PhysicsWallah, through Project Bharat, is localising learning using AI-powered translation and dubbing tools. It also offers AI-based study tools like Prep Meter and PW Books, helping students personalise and digitise their education.
Generative AI (Gen AI) is particularly popular in executive education. Platforms like Imarticus Learning report strong uptake of Gen AI courses among business leaders seeking strategic AI application skills.
India stands out in this AI-learning revolution thanks to its large, ambitious learner base and proactive education providers. Unlike the West, where AI is often confined to tech circles, India is democratising access — making AI education available to students, professionals, and executives alike.
With edtech firms innovating and parents investing, India is not just catching up — it’s leading the global race in AI upskilling.
